The Challenge
The Bee needed a cost-effective, scalable solution to test all spellers at once in a larger venue, provide quick feedback, and turn the preliminaries into an exciting, live event for families and media.
What We Did
Deployed high-speed desktop OMR scanners and custom forms, enabling all spellers to test simultaneously while storing digital images of forms for easy communication of results.
We went from about 4 hours down to 40 minutes... that turned it into more of an event.
The results
Transitioning to Scantron’s high-speed OMR solution allowed the Scripps National Spelling Bee to reduce preliminary test administration time from four hours down to just 40 minutes. This efficiency enabled all spellers to be tested simultaneously in a live event format, enhancing the experience for families and the media. Additionally, the system’s ability to store digital images of forms allowed for rapid, personalized feedback to be emailed to qualifiers while maintaining a scalable infrastructure for future growth.
