Procedure

In this topic we use the forms that you created in the topic Please Read This First.

  1. Ensure that you have the following application, data file, and profiles selected.
  2. Select Options > Scanning Options. The Scanning Options dialog box appears.
  3. clear the Online Edit Correction During Scanning checkbox to perform post-scan editing. Click OK to continue. This prevents the records with errors in them from being loaded into a queue for scan-time editing.
  4. Load the sheets into the hopper or input tray.
  5. In the ScanTools software, click Scan. After a slight delay, the sheets should scan. If they do not, ensure that you have properly set up your scanner. If necessary call Scantron Technical Support for assistance.
  6. If they scanned successfully, your screen should look something like this. Notice that the tab has switched from Session Control to Scanning Errors. The "Input hopper empty" and "Scanner not ready" errors are a normal part of any batch. Next, let's explore what we can do now that we've collected some data.
  7. Click Stop Scanning to end this session.
  8. Notice in the illustration above that the records have a Status of "Flagged." This indicates that there were errors that can be corrected in post-scan editing. See the topic on Post-Scan Editing for more information.
  9. Notice the other information found in the log and the rest of the dialog box. For a description of what each field means, see Main Window - Scanning ErrorsTab.
  10. Next let's view the Data File. Click View > Data File. The Modify Data File dialog box appears. Using this dialog box, you can view the data for each record that you collected. For more information on this dialog box, see Modify Data File dialog box.

That's all there is to basic scanning. From here you can explore editing, scoring, converting, and archiving operations in the "How Do I?" help. And you can also get detailed information for each dialog box in the "What's This?" help.
