Collecting and Editing ICR/OCR Data

In this topic

Task

After the application and edit profiles are properly set up, collecting and editing ICR/OCR data is no different than normal scanning. The ICR/OCR data is populated into the data file at scan-time. Editing is done post-scan as you would with any image application.

In this topic we show you how to scan and perform post-scan editing on the ICR/OCR data using the Data Correction Editor.

Procedure

Step 1: Collecting Data

In this topic we use the application and data file that we have set up in the previous topics. We also use the edit profile (Form 223022 Practice form) that we set up in the last topic and the sample test forms that we previously prepared (see Please Read This First). We do not use the scoring keys for this topic.

  1. Ensure that the Form 223022 Practiceapplication is still selected.
  2. Ensure that the Form 223022 Practice edit profile that we set up in the previous topic is selected.
  3. Ensure that the Form 223022 Practice data file that we created earlier is still selected. Also verify that the existing data are replaced by selecting Options > Scanning Options and selecting Replace in the Data and Output Conversion Files group.
  4. Make sure that there are no score or conversion profiles selected. The Score Profile and Conversion Profile text boxes should each show <None>.
  5. Load the stack of tests into the input hopper of the scanner.
  6. Click the Scan button in the ScanTools interface. The sheets should scan.
  7. When scanning is complete, click Stop Scanning.

Step 2: Post-Scan Editing

After the data file is created, you can edit it.This can be done at any time. Note that reapplying an edit profile removes any existing error flags and reevaluates the data file. However, any image clips that were saved during scanning are retained (image scanners only).

  1. Using all the edit profile settings selected above, click Edit in the ScanTools interface. The Data Correction Editor appears, queued to the first error. As you can see, the ICR/OCR data is populated in each data record.
  2. Unselect Auto Advance if desired. This prevents the editor from moving to the next field before you are ready.
  3. As you correct the errors, you have the following options:
  4. When you are done correcting errors, the Data Correction Editor automatically closes.

That's all there is to post-scan editing ICR/OCR data. As you can see, it's the same as normal post-scan editing.
