Upgrading from an Earlier Version of ScanTools Plus Link SDK

There are many changes in ScanTools Plus Link SDK v8.0. Installing a program built with this version of the SDK requires the installation of the corresponding version of ScanTools Plus Link Runtime.

Solution programs built and installed with an earlier version of the SDK back to the initial release of 6.0 can co-reside and run on the same system as those built with the newest version. As before, only one Link program can be running at a time.

Solution programs built and installed with ScanTools Plus Link SDK and Runtime v6.0 – v7.1 can co-reside and run on the same system as those built with versions 7.2 and later. These older solutions continue to use Runtime files installed with v6.0 – v7.1. Solution programs built and installed with ScanTools Plus Link v7.2 automatically use the newest ScanTools Plus Link Runtime files after they are installed.

If you want to take advantage of the additional features in this version, use the newest version to add the appropriate code for the features to your project, rebuild your program, and re-install it along with the newest Runtime version. See Updating ScanTools Plus Link Runtime Only.

We recommend you begin developing your program with the newest version as soon as your development schedule allows.
