IMPORTANT: This topic pertains to image scanners only. Image archiving is not available with an OMR-only scanner.
When you set up a grid in your application, you can check Archive this Clip in the Clip Attributes dialog box. When you do that, ScanTools temporarily saves an image clip of the clip region at scan-time. This lets you perform post-scan grid clip archiving any time after scanning is complete. When you click the archive button, the clips are saved as files with unique names based on the serial number from the data record and the suffix you specified in the Clip Attributes dialog box.
It is also possible to do whole-sheet archiving. The first step is to check Capture Entire Sheet in the Document and Sheet Properties dialog box. After you've done that, you must give a single grid on the top sheet and a single grid on the bottom sheet (it doesn't matter which grids you pick) file name suffixes so that they are properly named during post-scan archiving. After you've done this, image clips of the whole sheet are saved at scan-time. And when you click Archive any time after scanning is complete, the images are saved as files with unique names based on the serial number from the data record and the suffix you specified in the Clip Attributes dialog box.
Because you can generate many files when archiving, you may need an index to find them. ScanTools automatically creates an index for you and places it in the same directory as your image files. You can select the fields included in the index file (like name or id number) using the Archive Indices dialog box in the Application Designer.
The index has an .ndx suffix and is stored in a directory with the same name as the data file. The parent directory for that directory is specified in the Application Paths dialog box.
