Creating a "Mark All That Apply" Grid

In this topic

Concept

In some cases, you might want to collect all the responses for a grid. For those times, there is the Mark All That Apply grid. ScanTools collects all the responses for the Mark All That Apply grid and writes the responses to the appropriate field in the data record.

If you let ScanTools automatically set the field length, ScanTools will set it to the length of the longest response times the number of responses. So if the longest response is 10 and there are 7 responses, each response is allocated 10 spaces and the total field length will be 70. Unused space for each response and the entire space for unselected responses are filled with spaces. If you select left justify, the selected responses are written first.

For this topic, we will define a translate table, a field, and a mark all that apply grid for the following:

Procedure

Step 1: Create a New Application and Document (to use for practice)

  1. Create a new application by selecting File > New from the Application Designer main window. The Application Setting dialog box appears.
  2. Name the application Mark All That Apply Practice. Accept all default settings and click OK.
  3. Create a new document by selecting Document > New. The Define New Document dialog box appears.
  4. Name the document Mark All That Apply Practice. Accept all default settings and click Done. The Document and Sheet Properties dialog box appears.
  5. In the Timing Marks on Front box, enter 63. Click OK.

You have now successfully created a new application and document to use for practice.

Step 2: Create the Mark All That Apply Translate Table

  1. Create a new translate table by selecting Document > Manage Translate Tables. The Manage Translate Tables dialog box appears.
  2. Select <New Table> from the Table Name list. The Add Translate Table dialog box appears.
  3. Name the translate table MATA. Click OK.
  4. In the Manage Translate Tables dialog box for the MATA table, enter the following:
  5. Click OK when done.

You have now successfully created the translate table.

Step 3: Defining the "For Office Use Only" Field and Mark All That Apply Grid

  1. Click New in the Output Palette. The Output Field Entry dialog box appears.
  2. Use the following settings for the Test Score field:
  3. Click OK when done. The For Office Use Only field appears in the Fields list of the Output Palette.
  4. Use the following settings in the OMR Tool Controls for the summation grid that will be placed.
  5. Place the grid by starting at point 10,3 and dragging to point 10,4. Click Add Link to Grid in the OMR Tool Control and then start at point 10,6 and drag to point 10,7. This accommodates the broken nature of the response pattern that we started with. Click Append in the Output Palette to complete the mark all that apply grid placement.

You have now successfully placed a mark all that apply grid.
