Date Fields Handled by the Scantron OLE DB Provider

ScanTools Plus software stores dates as strings (not dates) in the output record in the following formats:

For Table View, the Scantron OLE DB provider converts the date strings to the OLE DB data type DBTYPE_DBDATE. Using this data type, you can perform standard date operations.

2-digit years are always converted to 4-digit years, using the 1930 – 2029 sliding window for the century definition. 30 = 1930, 00 – 29 = 2000 – 2029, this is compatible with the OLE Automation library.

For a Locale Indentifier (LCID), the Scantron OLE DB provider uses the default system locale, unless a value is defined for DBPROP_INIT_LCID on the data source (or provider binder object).

The date style is determined by the value of LOCALE_IDATE. (Month-Day-Year, Day-Month-Year, or Year-Month-Day).

Simple View

Using Simple View, date columns always display the original scanned data string as stored in the ScanToolsdata file, NOT as a formatted date data type. Multiples and omits appear as the appropriate character stored in the data file, as defined by the ScanTools application.

Table View: Blank, Incomplete, or Errors in Date Fields

Problems can be encountered at scan time with date fields. The following lists how these conditions are handled by the Scantron OLE DB provider, when using a table view of the data file, which is using the DBTYPE_DBDATE.

Problem Displayed As

Blank field, nothing marked

NULL, with no error code, not considered an error

Multiple or Omit

NULL, and error code DBSTATUS_E_CANTCONVERTVALUE

Non-numeric or invalid date

NULL, and error code DBSTATUS_E_CANTCONVERTVALUE, and string as scanned.
