Defining Linked Grids

In this topic

Terms

Linked Grids: Two or more separate grids that have a continued set of response designators between them.

Concept

In some cases, there is not enough room to put all responses for a question in a single column or row. When this occurs, use a linked grid to continue the responses from one grid to the next.

Procedure

  1. Define the Education field as described in Defining a Field. In the Output Field Entry dialog box, use the following settings:
  2. Click OK.
  3. Define the Grade or Education grid by first ensuring that the field name is highlighted in the box in the Output Palette field list.
  4. If the OMR Tool dialog box is not displayed, select View > Tools & Palettes and check the Tool Palette. Then click the OMR button on the left side of the screen.
  5. In the OMR Tool dialog box, use the following settings:
  6. Draw the first grid on top of the left column for the Grade or Education data area. The numbers 1 through 8 are placed. In the OMR Tool dialog box, click the Add Link to Grid button. Use the same settings as step 5 above when placing the linked grid.
  7. Draw the second grid on top of the right column in the Grade or Education data area. The numbers 9 through 16 (although the “1” for the tens digit will not appear) are placed.
  8. Associate the linked grids with the Grade field by clicking Append in the Output Palette. Notice that a single grid is displayed in the Grids list.
  9. Select File > Save to save your work.

You have now successfully defined linked grids and associated them with a field that you defined.
