30 Technical Colleges Will Implement Class Climate™ and eListen™ to Standardize Surveys and Improve Efficiency
IRVINE, Calif. - June 20, 2007 - The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE) has selected Scantron, a leading provider of assessment software and survey solutions for the education and commercial markets, to support Georgia's technical colleges in planning, evaluation and accreditation activities. DTAE oversees the Technical College System of Georgia, as well as the state's adult literacy program and various economic and workforce development programs. Each of the system's 34 technical colleges regularly conducts student surveys to facilitate continuous improvement in educational programs and services. Prior to selecting Scantron, some colleges in the system had automated survey data collection and reporting processes while many still utilized time consuming manual processes. "In technical colleges, we typically don't have the number of staff that universities do, although we have to perform many of the same tasks," said Kathryn Hornsby, director of Accountability and Institutional Effectiveness for DTAE. "We need to find ways to work smarter. We also want to provide schools with a choice in the type of software they use, and the option to conduct paper or web-based surveys. Scantron's solutions will allow our colleges to conduct surveys in a more efficient, consistent manner, and provide the flexibility to meet their specific needs."
Class Climate, Scantron's comprehensive course evaluation system, will be implemented at 19 technical colleges to perform fast and effective evaluations and gain feedback regarding student interest and instructor performance. Scantron's eListen survey software will be used by 11 technical colleges to create, deploy, collect and analyze surveys in support of improved planning and decision-making.
"Class Climate and eListen will help standardize our survey processes and provide for more accurate data collection and more comprehensive reporting," said Hornsby. "Our colleges will also be able to share survey templates and questions, which will strengthen the process and save time."
DTAE provides a unified system of technical college education, customized business and industry training, and adult literacy. Georgia technical education programs use the best available technology, and the colleges offer easy access to lifelong education and training. The Georgia technical college system consists of 34 technical colleges serving more than 150,000 students as well as technical education divisions at four state university system institutions. Each technical college offers a variety of associate degree and diploma programs, continuing education programs, and economic development programs.
