How it Works

Performance Series is a standards-based assessment that uses an innovative computer-adaptive, internet model to target the instructional level of each student. This is accomplished by adjusting question difficulty based on previous answers. If a student answers correctly, the test will increase the item difficulty to appropriately challenge that student. If a student answers incorrectly, the test engine will decrease item difficulty to the lower level skills. This enables Performance Series to provide an accurate evaluation of the student's abilities, either at, above, or below grade level. Once the test has been completed, the results are immediately available online, by student, class, school, and district.

Is time-consuming diagnosis the problem?

With Performance Series, students take individualized tests. The test adjusts automatically to each student's ability level, generating more difficult questions if the student is answering correctly and easier ones if the student is answering incorrectly. This provides placement information and individual learning plans for each student in approximately one hour.

Are reporting requirements the problem?

With Performance Series, individual teachers, committees, administrators, students, and parents all get the test results they need. For example, the Student Report shows individual student performance, so classroom teachers get data to help them create learning groups.

Reports

The Summary Report shows average performance data at the school level, so district administrators can target schools in need of help. Report data can be viewed in many different layouts; by groups, locations, staff members, or individual student.

Performance Series can be aligned to specific state or local standards, to the Common Core State Standards or to a custom combination of both sets of standards. Both the standard alignment and district-directed alignment provide students with a targeted assessment experience and provide teachers with reports to empower them to drive instruction using either set of standards, as well as the ability to track their lessons by both. Customization and reporting code display allow districts to easily transition from their current standards to the Common Core—or to use a combination of both.
