This document includes the following sections: * Release Summary * Operating Systems * Installation * Known Issues * Technical Support ======================================================= Release Summary ======================================================= The version 2.1 release includes the following new features: * Enhanced OMR recognition for light and partially filled bubbles. * Extended tuning configuration options for OMR scanning. * Improved image quality with enhanced calibration. * New and extended "Hybrid" image processing capabilities via API. * Windows VISTA TWAIN Imaging Support. * SIMR Autoflip configuration added. * RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Compliant. * Resolution to some issues detected in previous releases. ======================================================= Operating Systems ======================================================= The version 2.1 release is supported for installation on the following operating systems: * Windows 2000 Professional * Windows XP 32-bit (Home or Professional Edition) * Windows Vista 32-bit -NOTE: Vista is supported for TWAIN scanning only! ======================================================= Installing ======================================================= NOTE: It is critical that image and/or OMR tests be conducted as appropriate after any upgrade to ensure that brightness, contrast, or OMR threshold changes that may occur due to the result of the update do not affect the quality of the image or data capture that the Clarity provides. Installation of this release can be performed from a CD or via a download from within the Clarity Control Panel. For new installations, refer the Quick Start Guide included on the CD and within the scanner packaging. For upgrade from a previous version use of the following procedures: Upgrade from CD (to be used when internet access is not available): 1. Follow the ‘new installation’ instructions included on the Quick Start Guide to update the Clarity Control Panel and drivers. 2. Complete the ‘Upgrade from Internet’ instructions. (Internet access is NOT required as required files were installed from CD instead of from the internet.) Upgrade from Internet: 1. Make sure the Clarity Scanner is connected and powered on. 2. Launch the Clarity Control Panel program from the desktop icon or from the Start menu. 3. Select ‘Update Scanner’ then ‘Next’ and then ‘Check for Updates’ at each of the dialog boxes that appear. 4. Download the appropriate update from scantron.com and run the setup.exe similar to installing from CD. Depending on the version that you are upgrading from, the ‘Update Firmware’ and/or ‘Update FPGA’ should be checked and the versions of the components on the right side should be greater than that on the left. IMPORTANT: Do not disconnect or turn off the scanner during the update process unless instructed to do so. Some updates can take a few minutes or more. 5. Select ‘Update’ to begin the process of updating the firmware. 6. The following dialog boxes will guide you through the required scanner restarts. It is important to turn off the scanner for 1-3 seconds when asks to and not to process until the screen on the printer reads ‘Ready’. 7. After the firmware update is complete the ‘Check for Updates’ dialog box will appear again. Select ‘Check for Updates’ to verify if further components require an update. 8. If the ‘Update FPGA’ checkbox was checked, then the upgrade procedure will repeat. Select ‘Update’ to begin the process of updating the FPGA. IMPORTANT: Do not disconnect or turn off the scanner during the update process unless instructed to do so. Some updates can take a few minutes or more. 9. Follow the dialog box instructions as above to complete the update process. 10. Exit the Clarity Control Panel program when completed. IMPORTANT: If updating from a version prior to 2.0, the scanner LCD will display model 280i instead of Clarity 120 after the update completes. ======================================================= Known Issues ======================================================= This version contains these known issues: 1. Support for WIA Imaging Drivers was removed in 2.0. This means that 'Scanner and Camera Wizard' will not function with Clarity on Windows XP. 2. OMR and Hybrid Scanning are not supported in any version of Windows VISTA. 3. A hardware barcode device is not available and barcode zone within form definitions are not supported. 4. 'Error Marking' in ParScore is not supported. ParScore DOES NOT disable the scoring options when Clarity is detected, but the error marking will not occur even if scoring mode is selected. 5. ParScore will detect the Clarity as a 'Clarity 120' even if the LCD displays Clarity 280i or 210i. 6. Form auto-Flipping requires the form definition to be set with Auto-Reverse enabled for the data to process correctly. If Auto-Reverse is not selected or form definitions are not being used, the scanner will return data in a page-reversed order. 7. Scantron's QuickScore II application does not have the Clarity in the scanner selection box. Choose the ES2260 when using a Clarity. 8. For image scanning using TWAIN with any application including Class Climate or Cognition, it is critical to verify image quality prior to initial scanning. Brightness, contrast and black and white threshold may be adjusted to produce an optimal image for the appropriate solution. ======================================================= Technical support ======================================================= Should you have any questions regarding Clarity, first of all consult the documentation supplied with the scanner (Help and User's Guide).
