The Common Core State Standards

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). These standards were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and educational experts to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare K-12 students for college and the workforce. Scantron’s unique combination of online tools for standards-based formative assessment (Achievement Series®) and computer-adaptive diagnostic testing (Performance Series®) can assist with your transition to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). These web-based solutions support dual accountability tracking for both state and Common Core Standards.

Achievement Series: Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Focus

Scantron offers school districts pre-built assessments and items (Item Banks) written specifically to the CCSS. The Assessment offering contains two versions of pre-built assessments—a pretest and a posttest—in mathematics and English Language Arts, grades K-12. These tests are ready for administration as soon as a district’s system is set up, allowing the immediate capture of data. School districts can opt to build their own assessments, since the Common Core Item Bank offering contains over 2,400 items in grades K-12 in mathematics and English Language Arts. This option allows educators the flexibility to create their own tests, using high quality CCSS items.

State & Common Core Standards

Achievement Series allows districts to create an unlimited number of items and tests, which can be aligned to state standards and/or to the Common Core Standards. By aligning to both sets of standards, a report on both of these standards can be generated from a single test. This enables the school district to administer one test to all students, and track accountability across state standards and Common Core Standards.

Each of Scantron’s state and CCSS options provides flexibility for a district to move towards the Common Core Standards at its own pace, and maintain dual accountability tracking of state and Common Core Standards indefinitely. This allows districts to satisfy multiple reporting and tracking needs, all with one assessment.
